Do you have a passion for people, a curiosity about your community, and a knack for telling a great story? inRegister—an award-winning monthly lifestyle magazine and multimedia brand that covers the people, places, style and culture that make the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, region an extraordinary place to live—is looking for a community writer or editor to join our team. This person will oversee the print magazine’s Community section, write articles for print and online, and oversee the creation of original content for the twice-weekly e-newsletter inRegister@Home. This role will be filled at either the writer or editor level, dependent upon experience level of the successful candidate. This is a full-time position (40 hours/week); the person holding the position must reside in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

What you'll being doing:
  • Collaborates with the inRegister editorial team to develop story ideas for upcoming issues.
  • Oversees Community section of the print magazine, which includes maintaining a calendar of community events to cover, ensuring coverage of each event, and preparing Community section pages for production. Attends events, takes pictures, gathers names, etc. Assigns photographers to events that he/she cannot attend.
  • Produces creative, engaging and relevant content for the print magazine and website. Articles range from brief items to larger features.
  • Facilitates the production of the e-newsletter inRegister@Home each Tuesday and Thursday, including brainstorming content and themes, editing intern stories, publishing stories online, and sending newsletter.
  • Helps with social media content creation, including Instagram stories promoting each edition of the newsletter.
  • Develops, maintains and expands sources for articles through regular contact with people in the Baton Rouge community.
  • Proofreads all Community pages of inRegister prior to publication.

Education Qualifications:

B.A. degree in Journalism, English or other relevant field.

Experience and Software Qualifications:

Strong writing, editing, organizational and interpersonal skills are a must. Familiarity with WordPress, Adobe InCopy, and DSLR photography is a plus.

Physical requirements:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods, stand, walk, use hands and arms, talk, hear, and view a computer monitor for extended periods. Lifting up to 30+lbs occurs occasionally.
